How Nether Portal Linking Works in Minecraft
Traveling 1 block in the Nether equals 8 blocks of distance in the Overworld. When you enter a portal, Minecraft searches for an active portal within 128 blocks in the destination dimension. Entering exact matching coordinates prevents portals from linking to unintended locations.
1. Enter Coordinates
Input your current Overworld or Nether X, Y, and Z coordinates into the calculator.
2. Get Exact Target
The tool calculates the precise destination coordinates using the 8:1 scaling factor.
3. Build & Link
Build the destination portal frame at those exact coordinates to establish a clean 1-to-1 portal link.
Minecraft Nether Portal FAQ
Does Y-level (height) matter for Nether portals?
Yes. While X and Z coordinates scale by 8, Y-level is matched 1:1. Keeping Y-levels close prevents portals from linking to unintended locations above or below.
Is the Nether coordinate ratio different in Bedrock Edition?
No. Both Minecraft Java Edition and Bedrock Edition use the exact same 8:1 coordinate ratio for Overworld to Nether travel.
